Making Homes Safe Up & Down The Wasatch Front
A Division of Sierra Home Services
Wasatch Seismic a division of Sierra Home Services, has been involved in the seismic retrofit of homes to protect against earthquake damage all along the Wasatch Front. In fact, it’s so important to us that we have lent our full support to the Salt Lake City “Fix The Bricks” program and are pleased to be involved in this important work.
Wasatch Seismic feels it is an important step that every homeowner along the Wasatch Front should take action on. We have known about the potential earthquake disaster forecast in Utah for years. Seismic retrofit options are available and necessary. After all, it’s not a question of if, but when. It is no secret that the Salt Lake City valley was once a lake bed formed by the ancient Bonneville lake. Homes and businesses built on that foundation are subject to the worst possible destruction due to the soft instability of the lake bed layers.
It is estimated that the ancient lake covered almost half of the state of Utah in its day. It provided necessary water for jurassic life for years until a cataclysmic event altered the waters flow and the lake gradually shrunk to its current size. The Great Salt Lake is the only remaining vestiture of the once magnificent Lake Bonneville. With Lake Bonneville’s demise came an exposed lake bed, which is now home to countless homes and businesses along the Wasatch Front. In the event of an earthquake, homes and businesses would be subject to tremendous seismic forces and susceptible to catastrophic damage, much like a house built on a foundation of jello. Now, more than ever, it is essential to bolster your home and do all you can to protect it from these disastrous forces. This is what the “Fix The Bricks Program” is all about.
